The one number feature could be of enormous benefit to anyone that has to stay in constant contact. Just as voice mail transcription would give you a permanently kept hard copy of all voice mail messages. Like millions I started a Gmail account shortly after launch and can still obtain any email from that time. I up till now have yet to make any impact in the massive storage assigned to my mailbox. Presumably your voice mails will likewise be there years into the future.

This might sound marginally melodramatic but the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010 act tabled in the American Senate will give the president and his security agencies the power to shut down the internet or police it if a vaguely written national cyber emergency was declared.
And as everyone knows were America goes most of the Western world soon follows. In one possible future if a matching bill was soon tabled in the European Union and elsewhere. Would you be so keen to have all this information freely accessible to shady government agencies?
People could be under the illusion that they have control over their accounts and could just erase any information that might compromise them. But anyone that knows the operation of computers would know that is definitely not true. I don't think anyone can argue with the truth that Google Voice brings the organization closer to complete and irreversible control of the world wide web. However being an optimist and interested in new technologies I applaud Google's new project. And will likely be first in line if and when it is released worldwide.
